Jonathan Froines - Owner/Principal
Jonathan began his career as a fine artist, but as his drawings and sculptures evolved to room-sized installations, he realized a passion for creating immersive spaces that grew and changed over time. In landscape architecture he discovered the ability to create these atmospheric spaces while also impacting local ecology through the creation of habitat for various bird and insect species. Jonathan became obsessed with using California-native plants to attract wildlife to his garden and spent countless hours reading about plants and gardens.
Prior to starting his own practice, Jonathan worked on projects ranging from major public parks in Moscow and Santa Monica, urban plans for London and Copenhagen, and designs for several university campuses. In 2017, Jonathan began creating gardens with a more intimate, plant-focused scale, experimenting with California-native, Mediterranean climate-zone, and desert plants to create highly aesthetic gardens that dramatically change through the seasons.
Jonathan has a Master’s in Landscape Architecture and a Master’s in Heritage Conservation focusing on landscape history, both from the University of Southern California.
